The four candles

Four candles were burning on the Advent wreath. It was quiet, so quiet you could hear the candles talk to each other.

The first candle sighed and said: "My name is peace. I shine brightly, but people do not want peace, they will not have me."
The flame got smaller and smaller, finally to extinguish completely.

The second candle said, "My name is faith. But I have been superfluous. People will not know of God anymore. It is pointless that I burn."
So this flame extinguished too.

Distressed and in a low voice, the third candle said: "My name is love. I don't have any more power to burn. People ignore me. They see only themselves and not the others that they should love"
Also the third flame extinguished.

A child came into the room, looked at the lights with tears in the eyes, and said: "You should give light and not go out. Why will you not burn?"

Then suddenly the voice of the fourth candle was heard:
"Fear not! As long as I burn, we can light the other candles again. My name is Hope."

And the child took a flame from the candle of hope with a match and lit up all the other candles.
